Currumbin beachfront unit offered to public for the first time

A beachfront Currumbin apartment formerly owned by one of the southern Gold Coast's influential business and community leaders will be offered to the public for the first time when it goes under the hammer on Friday 2 May 2025.

‘Fletcher’, at 738 Pacific Parade, Currumbin, was one of several beachside properties commissioned by the late Col Smith.

Col Smith was President of the Currumbin Beach Progress Association and other community organisations. His father, Tom Smith built several buildings in the suburb including the first surf clubhouse on Elephant Rock.

The Smith family’s contribution to the local community is recognised by Gold Coast City Council through a viewing deck named in Col’s honour on the Currumbin Oceanway. Appropriately, the viewing platform and Elephant Rock are in the middle of a 180-degree vantage of the coastline offered from the balcony of Unit 4 in Fletcher, which will be taken to auction next month.

“Col Smith recognised the unique beauty of Currumbin Beach,” said selling agent Erin King of LJ Hooker Southern Gold Coast. “Fletcher is positioned on a bend in Pacific Parade which offers views to Surfers Paradise’s skyline and south to Snapper Rocks.

“Unit 4 was the last of the properties the family owned on Currumbin Beach because the Smiths believed it had the best view in the suburb — maybe even the entire Gold Coast.”

Unit 4 was held by the Smiths until 2017 when it was purchased off-market by another owner in the building.

Mrs King said the unit’s unmatched position on one of Australia’s most iconic beach strips would attract a strong turnout when the property goes under the hammer, if not sold prior.

“The unit is located opposite the iconic Elephant Rock and Currumbin Surf Club on Currumbin Beach and is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” she said. “The balcony, living area and bedrooms all enjoy the most stunning views and offers coverage to watch the surf and people travelling along the Oceanway.

“The unit has a retro, beachy vibe which draws in the coastal scenery from almost every corner.

“Currumbin has some of the Gold Coast’s best suburban cafes and the Surf Club is a hive of activity for families.”

The auction will be held on site at 4/738 Pacific Parade at 4:30pm on Friday 2 May 2025.
