Strawberry fields forever at this Far North Queensland property
The Shaylee Strawberry Farm — a Far North Queensland hospitality institution — has come to market, offering a rare opportunity for a buyer to combine business ownership with life in the tropics.
The farm, located between the townships of Atherton and Yungaburra, has been a popular pitstop for families for 40 years. It’s been welcoming parents and young children who have created memories together, picking their own fruit across the fields on the 11.65-hectare property.
In recent years, the farm has diversified operations, introducing the Two Strawberries licensed cafe where visitors can grab a light meal and drink or savour one of the farm’s renowned strawberry ice creams or gelatos.
The owners have also taken an innovative approach to post-harvest operations, establishing a boutique winery on site, where they produce five varietals of strawberry wine under the Berry Lane label.
LJ Hooker Atherton’s Joson Curcio and Alex Payne are managing the sales campaign with offers currently being invited.
Joson said the property was a mainstay of the Tablelands’ tourist industry and would appeal to buyers seeking a turnkey business and lifestyle opportunity.
“Since the 1980s, the farm has offered a unique Tablelands experience, drawing visitors from all over Australia and overseas,” he said.
“There have been significant investments along the way, with the addition of the commercial kitchen and cafe in 2021 which can comfortably cater for 100 customers and the winery facilities introduced since.
“There is a three-bedroom manager’s homestead on the property with in-ground pool, set against the backdrop of the fertile Tablelands countryside.”
Alex said the profitable business also offered rare beauty.
“There are established strawberry fields and irrigation and enough surplus land to scale the operation, significantly,” he said.
“A new owner could bring a new chapter to this successful business operation.”
The property comes with an array of amenities, including:
- Apacking shed with six-person packing machine, cold rooms and equipment.
- Secure machinery shed.
- Plant and equipment including tractors, sprayers, delivery truck and more.
- A 50-megalitre bore water allocation and advanced fertigation system for optimal growing conditions.
The property is at 255 Marks Lane, Atherton.
